Project ARA Harnesses Power of Air + Biomimicry for Packaging
Briefly

Tomorrow Bureau and WINT Design Lab developed Project ARA, showcasing the use of inflatable forms as versatile packaging. The project focuses on biomimicking patterns to create pneumatic membranes from elastic polymer, offering unique protection for items. Inspired by nature, the project interviews the intricate relationship between microscopic designs and large-scale applications. The inflatable textiles display high modularity, durability, and lightweight properties, adaptable for various shapes. Patterns are specifically engineered to optimize protection and usability, expanding traditional packaging concepts into more dynamic realms.
"Inspired by nature's microstructures, this project journeys from the microscopic to the monumental. Structured into three chapters, the narrative explores a design methodology grounded in research, experimentation, and applied imagination."
The result: a series of intricately tile-like patterns that form into pneumatic membranes, produced using elastic polymer. The prototypes have potential on a broad scale: from insulating smaller objects to fully encapsulating an architectural enclosure.
