"House in the Fields is a residential project in the Netherlands by TEAMTONBO. The unique location provided the starting point for the design: a plot where the barns and stables of a farm once stood, with miles of unobstructed views over meadows and forest. The design celebrates that view. While walking through the house, a different panorama unfolds each time - a 360-degree experience of the landscape."
"Three distinct volumes shape the house, while a single expansive, angled roof unifies them in one continuous gesture. The roof sometimes extends far beyond the volumes, creating spaces that are both inside and outside the building. The roof varies in height, thereby determining the spatial experience. At the veranda and dining table, it is only 2.2 meters high, while the ridge in the living room reaches 4.7 meters; every step through the house effectively offers a different feeling of space."
House in the Fields sits on a former farm plot in the Netherlands with unobstructed views over meadows and forest, and the design celebrates those views. The program is organized into three separate volumes for living, sleeping, and eating, each assigned a distinct material and character: recycled brick for the living room, vertical timber for the sleeping quarters, and glass for the dining room/kitchen. A single expansive angled roof unifies the volumes, sometimes extending beyond them to create inside-outside sheltered spaces. Curved walls and varying roof heights (2.2 m veranda to 4.7 m living ridge) choreograph movement and changing panoramas.
