Ridhima Saini's scale model of the Sony Alpha 7R, crafted from wood and MDF, showcases the beauty of handmade cameras. The design process involved detailed technical drawings and careful material selection, prioritizing wood for the core structure and metal and acrylic for essential features. The model's grip consisted of 22 identical MDF shapes arranged to create a distinctive inward curve, while a movable dial was integrated into the grip for functionality. This work exemplifies the principles of industrial design, emphasizing material, form, and proportions.
A hand crafted wooden scale model of the Sony Alpha 7R, built to exact proportions. The process began with detailed technical drawings and dimensioning based on the original camera.
Careful material selection played a key role; wood formed the core structure, while metal and acrylic were used to highlight other key elements and features.
22 identical MDF shapes were laser cut for the grip. These were arranged to create an inward curve towards the upper end, achieved by shifting individual pieces slightly.
A movable dial was installed within the grip, created by splitting one MDF grip part and attaching a 3mm aluminium rod as the rotational axis.
