Milú Brunell, a graduate from Savannah College of Art and Design, has designed the Soli lamp which harnesses the energy released by microbes in soil to create light. Utilizing microbial fuel cells, the lamp represents a step toward sustainable lighting solutions and highlights a growing interest in utilizing natural processes for energy. While the technology is still developing and faces challenges in scalability and cost, Brunell envisions its potential in public spaces, promoting awareness of our relationship with the environment and soil health.
Soli is just the beginning of creating awareness, and asking ourselves, If we nurture soil and we give back, how can we explore this relationship further?
Microbial fuel cells aren't totally new, but they are still a nascent technology that could become an alternative to fossil fuels.
