Hyphy Burger is ready for its close-up
Briefly

Hyphy Burger, located in West Oakland, officially opens on August 2 after a careful buildup since its February soft opening. Founded by Darion Frazier, rapper Guap, and entrepreneur Zack Alwajeeh, the restaurant aims to serve the local community, reflecting the duo's roots in the area. The name 'Hyphy' draws inspiration from a local hip-hop movement, celebrating the unique cultural identity of Oakland. The offering has been developed over three years of trial and error, focusing on community integration and local flavor.
“There are not a lot of big spots in West Oakland,” said Frazier, who attended Cole Middle School with Guap. “We wanted to put something here for the community. This is for the Bay, by the Bay.”
The restaurant's moniker is inspired by the Oakland-born style of uptempo hip-hop music and the culture behind it. East Bay rappers E-40, Mac Dre and Mistah F.A.B. are all part of the Hyphy movement.
It was three years of trial and error thinking up the idea behind Hyphy and how we’d do it,” said Frazier, wearing a black ballcap with “Oak” embroidered in white lettering.
