Jeremy Morton, 30, has been charged with various crimes following his assault on two elderly men at a Chinatown market in Oakland on April 10. After an altercation concerning a bag inspection, Morton attacked a 67-year-old employee and returned to violently assault a 77-year-old customer. He is currently in custody without bail and has a criminal history including carjacking and robbery. Following his arrest on April 24, he faces up to 19 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
According to court documents, Morton is on parole for an August 2022 carjacking conviction. He also has prior convictions for false imprisonment by violence, grand theft of real property and second degree robbery.
Morton allegedly kicked and punched the man and left when a second man - a 77-year-old customer - intervened, but returned moments later to attack him from behind.
