People living in cars outside East Palo Alto City Hall
Briefly

In East Palo Alto, homeless individuals are residing in abandoned cars at the City Hall parking lot, sparking concern among local officials. Sela Finau, who has lived in her car for two years after losing her caregiver job during the pandemic, shares her struggles with homelessness, hygiene, and the lack of shelter options. Despite outreach team efforts, she fears potential towing of her remaining vehicle and has received multiple tickets. Councilman Webster Lincoln advocates for assistance to the few individuals impacted, highlighting the urgent need for affordable housing amidst growing concerns.
"I didn't expect to lose so much. I just felt it was like back-to-back funerals," Finau said.
"If we do have to leave from here, we don't know where we're going to go because we haven't been placed in housing."
