Alameda's Coffee Cultures and Uzen in Rockridge shutter, and more recent closures
"Coffee Cultures on Park Street in Alameda closed Jan. 31. However, it still offers a mobile coffee cart for special events. Coffee Cultures used to have several locations in San Francisco, but Alameda was home, where owner Jason Michael Paul was raised. Ones Cafe & Bakery, based in Castro Valley, will open a location in this spot; the opening date hasn't been announced yet. Coffee Cultures, 1926 Park St., Alameda."
"After 20 years in Castro Valley, Knudsen's announced that it is closing its doors. Knudsen's served homemade icecream, burgers, sandwiches, and more. Knudsen's Ice Creamery, 3323 Castro Valley Blvd, Castro Valley The Lodge, on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland, closed its doors on Jan. 31. The beloved bar was not only a bar, but served as a venue for many chef pop-ups, including Lovely's owner Mikey Yoon as well as Navajo tacos from Rocky Yazzie."
"The Lodge, 3758 Piedmont Ave., Oakland. Readers told us Uzen, a Japanese restaurant on College Avenue in Oakland's Rockridge neighborhood, has closed. A note on the window states that they closed Jan. 31. The restaurant had been in Rockridge for 34 years and focused on sushi as well as meals such as bentos and noodles. Uzen, 5415 College Ave., Oakland."

Knudsen's Ice Creamery in Castro Valley closed after 20 years, ending service of homemade ice cream, burgers, and sandwiches. The Lodge on Piedmont Avenue closed Jan. 31 but has new owners planning a near-term reopening with minimal changes and added lunch service. Uzen in Rockridge closed after 34 years.
