Beloved Berkeley staple Rick & Ann's is closing up shop

Rick & Ann's, an iconic Berkeley restaurant known for its orange rice flour pancakes and cheesy potato pancakes, will close its doors on August 30. The restaurant has been a beloved fixture in the East Bay since 1989. Owner Ann Lauer decided not to renew the lease, marking a significant change in the community. Despite the closure, Lauer's catering business, Ann's Catering, will continue in a new commercial kitchen, preserving a part of the restaurant's legacy.
Following more than three decades of serving orange rice flour pancakes and cheesy potato pancakes, Rick & Ann's is bidding farewell for good on August 30th.
With retirement on the horizon, owner Ann Lauer chose not to renew the lease in August.
I've enjoyed seeing customers that I held as children, now with their families and some as grandparents. I've loved being a part of so many charities and community events.
Lauer said her catering business, Ann's Catering, will move to a commercial kitchen and live on as part of the restaurant's legacy.
