The Amherst-Pelham Regional School District is appealing the reinstatement of guidance counselor Delinda Dykes, who was fired for allegedly misgendering and deadnaming students. Her firing followed a 2023 exposé that accused her of failing to support LGBTQ+ students and promoting anti-LGBTQ+ views. Dykes disputes these allegations and maintains her innocence, claiming insufficient evidence led to her dismissal. The district cited a previous Title IX investigation that reportedly found she misgendered students multiple times and made inappropriate comments, including references to the 'gay agenda.'
The Amherst-Pelham Regional School District filed a complaint Wednesday to vacate a recent arbitration decision reinstating Delinda Dykes, who was fired after allegedly misgendering and deadnaming students.
In its complaint, Amherst-Pelham Regional Public Schools argued that the arbitrator 'exceeded her powers in issuing this award' and noted a previous Title IX investigation concluded Dykes 'repeatedly misgendered students after having been corrected on numerous occasions.'
