More than half a million students study in London and many struggle to cope with finances. The average student in London spends £1,269 a month on rent, bills and food. Undergraduate tuition fees rose from £9,250 to £9,535 in September 2025, the first increase since 2017. Visa surveyed 275 London students and 2,000 undergraduates nationally and found 84% of students in the capital felt overwhelmed managing their money. UEL's Student Money Advice and Rights Team helps students budget, access bursaries and full funding entitlements, and supports career development. High Tube fares and travel costs add to financial pressure.
