EPA eliminates $7-billion rooftop solar grant program
Briefly

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will discontinue the $7 billion Solar for All grant program, which aimed to assist low-income households in installing solar panels. This program had supported 60 recipients, including states and nonprofits, anticipated benefiting over 900,000 households. EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin criticized the program, highlighting inefficiencies due to funding dilution as most grants involved multiple intermediaries. As part of Congress's intent showcased in recent legislation, the agency is officially terminating this initiative as part of broader climate funding strategies. California had numerous projects funded through Solar for All.
"One of the more shocking features of Solar For All was with regards to the massive dilution of the money, as many grants go through pass-through after pass-through after pass-through after pass-through with all of the middlemen taking their own cut - at least 15% by conservative estimates," Zeldin said. "What a grift."
"With clear language and intent from Congress in the One Big Beautiful Bill, EPA is taking action to end this program for good," Zeldin added, referring to President Trump's tax and spending bill he recently signed into law.
