Hungarian prosecutors sought summary judgment against Budapest mayor Gergely Karácsony for declaring and organizing a municipal Pride march after police banned the event. An estimated quarter-million people attended the June rally. Karácsony faces an undetermined fine and had been warned in December that charges were imminent. Parliament passed the Assembly Act in April, banning events that "depict or promote" homosexuality and legally recognizing only two sexes. Karácsony has displayed the Pride and Ukrainian flags at city hall and vowed to stand up for freedom in response to the charges.
