Tesla's Lathrop Megafactory has reached a major milestone by producing its 15,000th Megapack 2 XL battery, reinforcing the importance of the Megapack in energy storage. Each Megapack offers 3.9 MWh of energy and 1.9 MW of power, making it highly applicable for large-scale energy projects. The factory, North America's largest utility-scale battery producer, can generate 40 GWh of clean energy storage annually. With the success of the Lathrop factory, Tesla plans to expand its energy production capabilities with the Shanghai Megafactory, which is also set to produce a significant number of Megapacks.
The Megapack enables utility companies to output far more total energy than would otherwise be the case... This is a massive unlock on total energy output of any given grid over the course of a year.
The facility is capable of producing 10,000 Megapack batteries every year, equal to 40 GWh of clean energy storage.
