A study by the Kyiv School of Economics highlights that more than 460 international companies have exited Russia following the country’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Of these companies, 59 global brands have officially left the Russian market, with 25 maintaining their trademarks. These trademarks, held by brands like McDonald's and Mercedes-Benz, protect their intellectual property in Russia. Some companies have transferred trademark rights to former Russian subsidiaries, while others like Zara have fully suspended operations in the country amidst a backdrop of increasing calls in Russia for the return of Western businesses.
