Zara removed two images from its website after complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority. The ASA found that the images portrayed models as unhealthily thin. One image featured a model in a silky blouse with a low cut that emphasized her collarbone, while the pose gave the impression of slim arms and shoulders. Another image showed a model in a minidress where shadows made her legs appear thin. Zara acknowledged the ASA's decision and emphasized its commitment to responsible content and strict guidelines in modeling and photography.
The ASA noted that the low-cut design of the shirt "drew attention to the model's upper chest area, creating a focal point around her collarbone, which was protruding."
Overall, we considered that the pose of the model and the choice of clothing in the ad created the impression that the model was unhealthily thin.
The ASA said the shadows over the model's legs "drew attention to them, whilst making them appear noticeably thin."
We are committed to responsible content and follow stringent guidelines and controls in the selection and photographing of models, as well as in the selection of images.
