"I've never really done any kind of long-form television and that was very challenging, actually. I learned a lot. It was a difficult thing to do. We shot during the pandemic in Italy. The whole world was shutting down. I was playing a very isolated character. And it's quite unusual for a television program to have one character."
"I found the character of Tom Ripley quite difficult to access as the cold-blooded killer is, thankfully, very unlike him. No, that's not going to happen now, regarding a second season."
Andrew Scott has definitively ruled out a second season of Netflix's critically acclaimed thriller Ripley. Speaking at SXSW, the Irish actor reflected on his experience playing the psychopathic con artist Tom Ripley in the eight-part black-and-white series based on Patricia Highsmith's 1955 novel. Scott described the role as extremely challenging, noting it was his first long-form television experience. He highlighted the difficulties of playing an isolated character during pandemic filming in Italy and emphasized how unlike himself the cold-blooded killer was. Despite receiving strong critical acclaim with an 86% Rotten Tomatoes rating, the series did not achieve significant viewership numbers.
