Set in the late 18th century Hawaiian Islands, "Chief of War" follows Kaʻiana, a warrior from Maui living peacefully in Kaua'i. The arrival of his uncle, King Kahekili, disrupts this tranquility, as he brings a warning of impending war from O'ahu that threatens to enslave their people. Believing in an ancient prophecy and seeking to unite the kingdoms, Kahekili convinces Kaʻiana to gather arms against O'ahu. As tensions rise, doubts about the prophecy and its interpretation surface, complicating their path to potential conflict and unity among the kingdoms.
The series focuses on four kingdoms that stood alone: the Kingdom of O'ahu, the Kingdom of Maui, the Kingdom of Kaua'i, and the Kingdom of Hawai'i.
Kaʻiana, a warrior from Maui, sought refuge in Kaua'i and has cultivated a life of peace with his brothers, diverging from his past.
Kahekili believes that the impending war could fulfill an ancient prophecy, seeing himself as the potential king to unite the kingdoms.
The Prophecy does not foretell the rise of a king. It predicts the birth of a moment, which prompts Kaʻiana to take action before O'ahu strikes.
