Charli XCX unexpectedly agreed to star in Erupcja after a chance meeting, joining a project with no screenplay and a rapid three-month turnaround before her tour. Pete Ohs employs a "table of bubbles" method, making one film per year with tiny crews while serving as DP, sound recordist and editor, and developing stories collaboratively with actors. Ohs relocated to Warsaw after festival introductions and aimed to make a foreign-language film following experiments in horror and indie comedy. Collaborators include Jeremy O. Harris, Will Madden, translator Zofia Chlebowska and actress-writer Lena Góra, inspired by a stranded-traveler anecdote.
