"More than 2,000 Hollywood figures, including well-known actors and filmmakers, have pledged to boycott the growing Israeli movie industry in response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The open letter was published online on Tuesday in five languages by Filmmakers for Palestine which describes itself as "a call by and for filmmakers and cinema workers to stand for an end to genocide, and for a free Palestine.""
"Titled "Film Workers Pledge to End Complicity," the letter defines such complicity as "whitewashing or justifying genocide and apartheid and/or partnering with the government committing them." The FAQ page states that signatories may still work with Israeli individuals. "The call is for film workers to refuse to work with Israeli institutions that are complicit in Israel's human rights abuses against the Palestinian people," the letter said."
Over 2,000 actors, filmmakers and cinema workers pledged a boycott of Israeli film institutions in response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The pledge targets Israeli production, distribution companies, sales agents, cinemas and other institutions described as implicated in genocide and apartheid. The initiative, issued by Filmmakers for Palestine, defines complicity as whitewashing or partnering with a government committing those abuses. The FAQ clarifies that signatories may still work with Israeli individuals while refusing institutional collaboration. The letter lists prominent signatories and frames the refusal as aimed at institutional complicity, not personal identity. The Israeli government denies genocide accusations and says its operations target Hamas.
