Ice Cube Explains His Awful War Of The Worlds Movie
"We shot it in 15 days, and it was during the pandemic. So, the director wasn't in there. None of the actors was in there. This was the only way we could really shoot the movie. [It was] pandemic time."
"[ War of the Worlds is a movie] I did in 2020 during the pandemic, five years ago,"
"But really, if shit went down, everybody would only have their screen to look at."
"The movie is shot, the actors are shot, but all the footage is from real surveillance cameras around the world,"
"And they had to build all that shit. So yeah, it took a minute."
Amazon released a new screenlife version of The War of the Worlds starring Ice Cube that presents events entirely on computer screens. The film was shot during the 2020 pandemic in about 15 days with directors and many actors unable to be physically present. The screen-only format was chosen because characters would largely have access only to their devices during a crisis. The film reportedly sat for five years after Universal sold it to Amazon Prime while producers assembled and integrated surveillance and other footage, a process described as time-consuming.
