Jessie Buckley says she's 'delighted' with Hamnet Oscars nomination as she addresses Paul Mescal snub
"I think he's extraordinary in this film. I know I've met a partner for life in doing this with him. I don't know what to say apart from he is, to me, my absolute. His artistry is something that will continue to grow and be a theme in so many different ways."
"I know what we created together is something that's so special to us, and I hold that so dearly in my heart, and there's no part of Agnes that exists without Paul. So, what is recognised belongs to him as much as him being recognised in his own category would."
"I'm so proud and honoured to be beside all those extraordinary women and to be there with Hamnet. I'm delighted."
Paul Mescal did not receive a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his role in Hamnet, generating disappointment. Buckley earned a second Oscar nomination after a previous Best Supporting Actress nod for The Lost Daughter, in which she lost to Ariana DeBose at the 94th Academy Awards. Buckley is considered the overwhelming favourite to win Best Actress on March 15 and faces nominees Rose Byrne, Emma Stone, Kate Hudson, and Renate Reinsve. Hamnet casts Buckley as Agnes (historically Anne Hathaway) and Mescal as William Shakespeare. Buckley praised Mescal's artistry, emphasized their creative partnership, and expressed pride and gratitude for her nomination. Bugonia, co-produced by Element Pictures, received a Best Picture nomination.
