"All of us here who make films are not motivated by competition, but this is something I truly appreciate."
"Art does not have to address politics directly to be political."
"It can engender empathy and a connection between us, which is really the first step for solving things and problems that we have. So I thank you for appreciating our quiet film."
"The voice of Hind is the voice of Gaza itself, a cry for rescue the entire world could hear, yet no one answered. Her voice will continue. Her voice will continue to echo until accountability is real, until justice is served."
Father Mother Sister Brother won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. The film is structured as three conceptually linked stories: Adam Driver and Mayim Bialik visit their father Tom Waits in the northeastern US; sisters Cate Blanchett and Vicky Krieps visit their mother Charlotte Rampling in Dublin; and twins Indya Moore and Luka Sabbat return to their late parents' apartment in Paris. The film emphasizes familial connections and presents art as a means to engender empathy and connection as a step toward addressing shared problems. The Voice of Hind Rajab won the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize, earned the festival's longest standing ovation, and the award was dedicated to the Palestinian Red Crescent and those saving lives in Gaza.
