"That was really nice,"
"I was also incredibly grateful that the world spoke up for me so I didn't have to."
"weakest fucking actor in SAG"
"Fuck that guy! He must've been high,"
Paul Dano received substantial public support from prominent peers after Quentin Tarantino insulted his acting. Tarantino called Dano the "weakest fucking actor in SAG" on Bret Easton Ellis's podcast in December 2025. High-profile figures defended Dano, including George Clooney saying he'd be "honored" to work with him, Ben Stiller calling him "brilliant," and Zach Woods mocking Tarantino's behavior. At the Sundance 20th anniversary screening of Little Miss Sunshine, Dano expressed gratitude that people spoke up on his behalf. Toni Collette publicly condemned Tarantino's criticism, and co-director Jonathan Dayton attributed Tarantino's reaction to discomfort with Dano's rawness and ambiguity.
