Queer Eye star reveals he lost major film role to Stanley Tucci
"I went in. I must have read for it, and, allegedly, according to the casting people, I made it all the way up the totem pole and there were two people up for the role. It was me and that Stanley Tucci fellow!"
"[They] said, 'Oh God, you're great, we love you, but we can't have somebody who's never been in a movie in the scene with Meryl Streep. That might be too big of a gamble.' So I didn't get it."
"Thanks for ruining my career! No, he is amazing, and he was so great in it. I love all his cooking shows, going to Italy."
Carson Kressley, star of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, revealed he competed against Stanley Tucci for the role of Nigel in 2006's The Devil Wears Prada. During the height of his reality show's popularity in 2003, Kressley auditioned for the cult classic film directed by David Frankel, which starred Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, and Emily Blunt. The casting team praised Kressley's audition but ultimately chose Tucci, citing concerns about pairing an inexperienced actor with Meryl Streep in a major scene. Kressley joked about the outcome on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, humorously blaming Tucci while acknowledging his talent.
