Quentin Tarantino's swashbuckling epic' The Popinjay Cavalier set for West End debut
"The Popinjay Cavalier is inspired by the swashbuckling epics of stage and screen and is a sweeping celebration of theatre and its heightened romance, told with Tarantino's signature style and unmistakable wit."
"Tarantino, who now lives in Tel Aviv, said he would move to England with his family to work on the play and that it would take up 18-24 months of his life."
"If it's a flop, I'll be done very quickly, he added, suggesting that if successful in the West End, there would also be a tour."
Quentin Tarantino has written and will direct his first play, The Popinjay Cavalier, a rambunctious comedy of deception and disguise set in 1830s Europe. The production, presented by Sonia Friedman Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment, will open in London's West End in early 2027 at a venue yet to be announced. Inspired by swashbuckling epics, the play celebrates theatre with Tarantino's signature style and wit. Tarantino, now living in Tel Aviv, plans to relocate to England with his family for 18-24 months to develop the project. This marks his playwriting debut following his 2021 novel adaptation of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and precedes his planned tenth and final directorial film.
