Timothee Chalamet backlash rages on as British opera star calls him 'immature'

"I don't want to be working in ballet or opera where it's like, 'Hey! Keep this thing alive, even though no one cares about this anymore.' All respect to the ballet and opera people out there, I just lost 14 cents in viewership, I just took shots for no reason."

Timothée Chalamet sparked controversy after comments made during a February Variety/CNN event with Matthew McConaughey resurfaced, where he stated that "no one cares" about ballet and opera. He expressed reluctance to work in those art forms despite offering respect to practitioners. The remarks went viral, attracting criticism from opera and ballet performers, rapper Doja Cat, and actor Jamie Lee Curtis. Whoopi Goldberg joined the criticism on The View, pointing out the irony given Chalamet's family dance background—his mother and grandmother trained with New York City Ballet, and his sister attended the School of American Ballet. British opera star Camilla Kerslake also condemned his comments.
