Violin used in Titanic movie sells for 54,000
Briefly

A violin featured in Titanic, played by actor Jonathan Evans-Jones portraying band leader Wallace Hartley, sold for $54,000 at a Wiltshire auction. This instrument was notably showcased during the film’s poignant scene of the band playing 'Nearer My God to Thee' as the ship sank in 1912. All musicians aboard tragically perished in the disaster. Other memorabilia included a letter from Titanic survivor Colonel Archibald Gracie, fetching $300,000. The film, directed by James Cameron, starred Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio as star-crossed lovers on the fateful voyage.
In 2013, Evans-Jones sold the violin at auction to a private collector, who put it up for sale with Henry Aldridge & Son auctioneers.
Cameron’s multi-Oscar-winning film starred Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio as passengers who meet and fall in love on the voyage, despite a class divide.
