WATCH: Hope emerges through love (& in-the-buff modeling) in intimate indie drama Surfacing - Queerty
"When we meet the tall, dark, and handsome Cole ( Ginny & Georgia's Damian Romeo), he's years into battling pill addiction and living with depression, so much so that, when he shows up to his therapist Jessica's ( Supernatural 's Cindy Sampson) office, he's pretty much just going through the motions. "The world can be pretty hard to live in," she tells him. "There's some days where I wonder what it would be like to just fade away.""
"Sure, maybe there are some professional lines being crossed-or at least blurred-but hearing what someone else is going through at home is enough to encourage Cole to lend a helping hand, and finally confront some of his own demons along the way. As he starts to put himself out there more (including a stint as an au naturel model), he strikes up a flirtation with a man named Jackson (the film's writer, Johnathan Sharp),"
Cole struggles with long-term pill addiction and depression and attends therapy but remains emotionally distant. His therapist Jessica admits to dark, human doubts, which draws Cole into her personal life and blurs professional boundaries. Cole begins to help Jessica at home and confronts his own demons while experimenting with vulnerability, including modeling au naturel. He initiates a flirtation with Jackson, who is wary because of Cole's history of one-night stands. Recovery becomes framed as an effort to open his heart and form deeper, more connected relationships.
