Restaurant of the Month Legado
"By 2007, she was head chef, raising the bar for Spanish food in London. By 2008, Nieves was also in charge at Barrafina, the Hart bros. superlative group of tapas restaurants where she won a Michelin star and helped to kickstart the small plates' trend. Her Barrafina cookbook is an essential primer for Spanish cuisine, featuring the famous Barrafina tortilla recipe with its runny eggy interior."
"She opened Sabor in 2017 in Heddon St in the West End to great acclaim, winning a Michelin star in 2018. Now Nieves has just added Legado to her portfolio in the edgier environs of Shoreditch. The restaurant's mission is to celebrate the diverse regional food cultures of Spain and its islands, allowing the lesser-known to take centre stage'."
Nieves Barragán Mohacho built a reputation in London from sous-chef roles to head chef at Fino and later at Barrafina, where she won a Michelin star and influenced the small-plates trend. She opened Sabor in 2017, winning another Michelin star in 2018, and has now launched Legado in Shoreditch. Legado aims to spotlight diverse regional Spanish and island cuisines and includes a separate tapas and pintxos bar called The Taberna. The dining room features brickwork, a vaulted glass roof, potted trees, sage green banquettes and a large open kitchen with an industrious brigade. The menu offers more substantial dishes, including suckling pig, Iberico pork and lamb.
