Palestinian Authority authorities arrested Hicham Harb under a 2015 Interpol international warrant, and France is pursuing his extradition. The 1982 Jo Goldenberg restaurant attack in Le Marais on August 9 killed six and injured 22, and is regarded as the deadliest anti‑Semitic attack in France since World War II. Harb, also known as Mahmoud Khader Abed Adra and aged 70, is suspected of leading five attackers and of supervising and participating in the gun assault. The assault, blamed on the Abu Nidal Organisation, began with a grenade thrown into the dining room before gunmen opened fire. French officials linked Harb’s arrest to impending French recognition of an independent Palestinian state.
