Paris has installed the first of ten statues honoring pioneering French women in preparation for the 2024 Olympics. This initiative features significant figures such as Simone Veil and Simone de Beauvoir. The first statue is a golden representation of Gisele Halimi, a renowned lawyer known for her role in a landmark abortion trial in 1972. Halimi gained national recognition for defending a minor who had an abortion following a rape. The statues will remain in the northern La Chapelle district until at least the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
