John E. Coleman Jr., an 81-year-old Staten Island resident, passed away recently, remembered for his compassion and dedication to helping others. Over 30 years ago, he began working with Camelot Counseling Centers as a director of operations and client advocate after overcoming addiction himself. Coleman committed over four decades to assist families and individuals in recovery, even while battling cancer. His dedication extended beyond work; he was a loving family man, married for 48 years, and enjoyed activities like coaching his grandson's hockey team. A GoFundMe was initiated to cover his funeral costs, reflecting his profound community impact.
"His instincts, sincerity, and fierce commitment to helping others went far beyond anything that could be taught in a classroom. He didn't just work in recovery-he lived it…"
"Even while he was fighting cancer, he never stopped showing up… Whether it was a client in crisis, a friend in need, or a family member reaching out-John showed up. Always."
