""We have more than 200 volunteers here and a lot of them are people who maybe live in the country but work in Dublin and live on their own, and they come here just to be with other people, so a lot of needs that the guests have the volunteers have as well. It's a shared experience of community," he added."
""As well as a hot three-course meal, there was toys for the children, entertainment, and live music to bring some warmth and welcome. The families sat down to a dinner of cream of vegetable soup, stuffed turkey with glazed ham and all the trimmings, seasonal vegetables, Christmas pudding and home-made vanilla custard. The charity also prepared more than 5,000 takeaway meals for distribution around wider Dublin that are collected and brought out into the community.""
The Knights of St Columbanus hosted a 101-year tradition Christmas meal, with first arrivals at 11am. Guests received a hot three-course meal along with toys for children, entertainment, and live music. The dinner menu included cream of vegetable soup, stuffed turkey with glazed ham, seasonal vegetables, Christmas pudding and home-made vanilla custard. The charity prepared more than 5,000 takeaway meals for wider Dublin distribution. The event typically serves around 500 meals but can grow due to no reservations. More than 200 volunteers support the event, planned from September and staffed in early December. Kitchen operations were overseen by Patsy McGuirk, with turkey and ham prepared in Monaghan and two teams of six servers bringing food to tables.
