Microsoft launches Recall and AI-powered Windows search for Copilot Plus PCs
Briefly

Microsoft has launched its Recall feature for Copilot Plus PCs, designed to help users resume tasks by capturing and categorizing screenshots of their activities. Initially slated for a 2022 release, Recall faced delays due to security concerns. Over 10 months, Microsoft enhanced its security measures, making it an opt-in feature for user privacy. Alongside Recall, an upgraded AI-focused Windows search interface and the Click to Do tool are also introduced, competing with Google’s functionality, both aimed at improving user experience and efficiency in searching.
Recall is designed to improve how you search your PC, but taking snapshots that are categorized so it's easy to search for vague memories instead of file names.
When we introduced Recall, we set out to address a common frustration: picking up where you left off.
Technologically it's a great improvement to the Windows search interface, because it can understand images and content in a much more natural way. But it does create a privacy minefield.
Microsoft has now spent the past 10 months overhauling the security of Recall and making it an opt-in experience that you don't have to enable if you're concerned about the privacy implications.
