"I was wondering the best way to create a QR code to connect to the internet in a home? I am thinking for just a bit of fun so no security issues really, but wondering the best way to do this? I can create a QR code easily, but not sure on the rest - would I need to create a landing page to somehow connect to the wifi? It is password protected, but is there a way to stop this if someone scans the QR?"
"Most phones these days will let you generate a QR code for a wifi network. There are also plenty of tools online to generate one for you. Generate one via one of those methods, print it out and post it somewhere. If you're interested in emulating what businesses do where they have a "Agree to continue" type page, that is called a captive portal and requires support for it by your router/access point."
Create a QR code that encodes either a public URL or a local server URL to provide quick access. For general internet links, generate a QR with the desired URL and scan it when needed. For an in‑house server, encode its local IP or hostname (for example http://192.168.x.x) and ensure the scanning device is on the same LAN. Most phones and many online tools can generate Wi‑Fi QR codes directly. A passworded network still requires credentials unless a guest SSID without a password is offered. A captive portal (“Agree to continue”) requires router/access point support.
