"Based on that premise, the software sales units forecast for this fiscal year was set at a level close to the total combined number of Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 software units sold last fiscal year, excluding the bundled software units. He said the number is lower than some might have expected because it does not included bundled software like it did for the Switch 2's first fiscal year when the Mario Kart World bundle was available."
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa emphasized the need to grow the overall software business across both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. He said Nintendo should consider expanding software for both platforms instead of concentrating only on Nintendo Switch 2 software sales. He linked this approach to slower sales of the Switch 2-exclusive Mario Kart World after Nintendo discontinued a hardware bundle that included the game. Furukawa called Mario Kart World an important title and expected it to keep selling throughout the Switch 2 lifecycle. He also explained Nintendo’s software sales forecast for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027, noting it excludes bundled software units. Nintendo reported Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream reached 3.8 million sales in 14 days, with 60% of players on Switch 1.
