"We regret to announce this planned closure of our seven aircraft Berlin base... but we have no alternative following the airport's latest 10 percent fee increase to its already high airport fees."
"German aviation is broken. The Government admits that it is uncompetitive, yet there is no strategy to cut aviation taxes or high airport fees despite Ryanair warning that Germany would lose traffic, connectivity, jobs and trade."
Ryanair announced a 50% reduction in flights to and from Berlin starting October 24th, relocating all seven aircraft based there. The decision stems from a 10% increase in airport fees and Germany's high aviation taxes. Berlin-based pilots and crew will have opportunities for alternative positions within Ryanair's network. The airline has previously cut services to other German airports and anticipates further reductions. Ryanair's CEO criticized the German aviation system as uncompetitive, while Berlin Brandenburg Airport denied claims of fee increases.
