Fukt magazine's latest edition, curated by Bjørn and Ariane Spanier, embraces the expansive theme of nature, receiving overwhelming submissions that led to rich thematic explorations. Key focuses include pioneering female botanical explorers and the intersection of queer ecology with land art. In light of the climate emergency, this issue underscores the importance of re-engaging with nature's beauty and the necessity for conservation. The editors have enhanced editorial content, integrating interviews and essays, while maintaining the visual artistry at the issue's core through unique covers.
We’ve been wanting to do a nature issue for such a long time. The tricky part was figuring out how to approach it - 'nature' is such a huge, open topic.
Even when a theme is broad, there's something really satisfying about diving in, exploring its layers, and curating a wide range of interpretations from artists around the world.
This edition was all about 'recognizing what's at stake', inviting us to reconnect with the beauty and significance of nature through the creative work on display.
Although the editors emphasize the editorial side, visuals remain central to the magazine, with each issue featuring a unique cover designed by Ariane.
