""This institution is special in more ways than most are aware and [is] deserving of a grant of this magnitude,""
""We believe in Huston-Tillotson, and we're committed to supporting the next 150 years.""
""I see this as an endorsement of what we're doing and a rocket booster to help us get to the next level,""
Huston-Tillotson University will receive $150 million from the Moody Foundation, to be paid out over the next decade. The gift coincides with Huston-Tillotson's 150th anniversary. The Moody Foundation previously pledged $1 billion to support education in Texas by 2035. The donation marks the largest gift Moody has ever given and the single largest donation ever made to a historically Black college or university. Huston-Tillotson currently serves 1,059 students. University president Melva K. Wallace described the gift as transformational and compared it to a rocket booster for the institution's advancement.
