UC Berkeley sends 160 names to feds during antisemitism investigation
"The names of 160 students, faculty and staff were sent to the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights after the office demanded documents related to complaints of antisemitism and discrimination at the university. "The UC systemwide Office of the General Counsel (OGC), in compliance with its legal obligations to cooperate with the agency, directed UC Berkeley to provide those documents to the federal agency," Janet Gilmore, the senior director of strategic communications at UC Berkeley, said in an emailed statement."
"The UC system has been under scrutiny by the Trump administration, which alleges that the universities have not done enough to stop antisemitism it has linked to campus protests. Students on campuses across the U.S. held pro-Palestinian demonstrations in response to Israel's military assault on Gaza following the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack. The Trump administration announced last month that it would withhold $584 million in federal research funds from UCLA over allegations of antisemitism."
