The initiative targets tens of thousands of items across 21 Smithsonian museums and seeks comprehensive visual and textual documentation of objects and their interpretive materials. The historians solicited volunteers to visit museums, take photographs of artifacts and the accompanying written descriptions, and submit the images for archiving.
