Energym is a fictional gym chain concept created by tech entrepreneurs Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Sam Altman that harvests energy from unemployed people exercising on machines to power AI servers responsible for their job loss. The satirical premise reflects a future where 80% of people are unemployed and use gyms to gain purpose while generating electricity. The mockumentary-style advertisement was created by Belgian creatives Hans Buyse and Jan De Loore to critique the current AI startup landscape and venture capital culture. De Loore, cofounder of creative studio Kitchhock, now uses generative video AI technology through his AiCandy studio to produce advertisements. The Energym ad effectively satirizes how startups pitch absurd ideas for massive valuations and IPOs.
