Aura Johnson has been named director of programming at the Ashland Independent Film Festival after working with AIFF since 2012 and previously sharing programming duties with Richard Herskowitz, who will now assist as curator of special programs. Nicole Gullixson continues as managing director and brings experience as a videographer, designer, and storyteller, praised as a creative partner who brings so much enthusiasm and style. AIFF recovered from post-pandemic setbacks with a well-attended 2025 spring festival and plans monthly public screenings and events at venues including the Varsity Theatre, the AIFF Film Center, and Southern Oregon University. A September screening on Sept. 17 will feature a film about high school speech and debate competitors, and an Oct. 11 screening at SOU will present Maureen Gosling's documentary The Nine Lives of Barbara Dane, which includes appearances by Bonnie Raitt, Louis Armstrong, and Jane Fonda.
