Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding, a ghostly post-apocalyptic video game, is being adapted into an animated film. Writer Aaron Guzikowski, known for HBO's Raised by Wolves, is on board and describes the universe as creatively freeing and dark yet hopeful. This news arrives ahead of the anticipated release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach for PS5. Additionally, a live-action film adaptation is in development with A24, directed by Michael Sarnoski, adding further layers to the expanding franchise.
I love the world of Death Stranding, it's so creatively freeing, so beautifully dark and yet hopeful. I will be creating new stories into this fertile, mind-bending universe.
The animated feature will supposedly be in the same mold as other animated spinoffs like the recent Predator anthology on Hulu, which could be a good vehicle for Kojima's particular brand of weirdness.
The news comes just ahead of the game's long-awaited sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which launches on the PS5 on June 26th.
A live-action film is also in the works from A24, with Michael Sarnoski - the director of Pig and A Quiet Place - on board to direct.
