Two teenagers, Thalha Jubair (19) and Owen Flowers (18), were arrested after raids by the National Crime Agency and City of London Police and charged under the Computer Misuse Act for allegedly targeting the rail operator. Transport for London suffered a cyber attack last year that severely disrupted systems and caused more than £31 million in damages. The NCA believes the group Scattered Spider carried out the attack. Paul Foster of the NCA called the charges a key step and stressed the attack hit critical national infrastructure. A cybersecurity researcher urged authorities to better engage tech-savvy youths and provide positive outlets. Both defendants were remanded and will appear at Southwark Crown Court.
