Dodgers Make Roster Move, Option Catcher Ahead of Tuesday's Game
"In the meantime, 27-year-old catcher Ben Rortvedt, a trade deadline acquistion that fell under the radar due to the Dodgers previous depth behind the plate, has shown that he is more than capable to hold it down. Rortvedt is hitting .308 in his last 10 games with a .785 OPS. In addition to his offense, Rortvedt has proven to be an incredible framer and a welcomed addition defensively."
"As for Robinson, he started his season with the Los Angeles Angels after being dealt from the Chicago White Sox. He played on their Triple-A squad until he was designated for assignment at the end of May. A few days later, the Dodgers claimed Robinson off waivers and he served as a backup catcher in Triple-A. After the aforementioned injuries to the backstops, Robinson made his first big league appearance of the year on Monday."
Dalton Rushing has been activated from the injured list and Chuckie Robinson has been optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Will Smith and Rushing both suffered hand and shin injuries that forced lineup adjustments and IL stints. Ben Rortvedt, acquired at the trade deadline, has hit .308 over his last 10 games with a .785 OPS and has provided strong defensive framing. Robinson began the season with the Angels, was designated for assignment, claimed by the Dodgers, and served as a Triple-A backup before his recent big-league appearance. Manager Dave Roberts emphasized that Rushing needs a more consistent, compact swing.
