Mookie Betts nearly abandoned baseball to pursue a college basketball career and even scheduled the ACT to apply for college. He excelled in both high school basketball and baseball and committed to play baseball at Tennessee before entering the MLB Draft. The Boston Red Sox selected him and he considered leaving while in the minor leagues until a standout game the day before his scheduled ACT convinced him to remain with baseball. Betts stands 5'9" but is known for his explosiveness, quickness, and bounce, often acting as a facilitator and strong defender on the court.
