"I kind of brought it back last year in spring training. Just didn't have to throw it a bunch out of the bullpen. ... It just opens up a lot, especially now that I have more confidence in the changeup."
"I think his ability to grow and mature and learn how to harness his stuff and compete in those moments will serve him well as he tries to navigate a lineup two, three times. He'll certainly be a candidate. He was also so good out of the 'pen, we have to weigh that."
Justin Wrobleski, a Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher, is working to secure a rotation position by relying more heavily on his cutter this spring. During his March 8 start against the Athletics, he threw cutters on 20.9% of his pitches, up from 14% utilization in 2025, generating three whiffs in a scoreless three-inning performance with three strikeouts. Wrobleski attributes his increased cutter usage to renewed confidence in his changeup, which opens up more pitching options. Though he struggled in a subsequent appearance against the White Sox, allowing five earned runs in 2.1 innings, he had pitched scoreless ball through six innings earlier in spring. Dodgers President Andrew Friedman acknowledged Wrobleski as a rotation candidate while noting his effectiveness as a reliever creates a difficult decision for the organization.
