Will Smith delayed in return to Dodgers from injured list
""We're sort of at a standstill," Roberts said. "Not getting worse, getting a little bit better each day. He caught Glas today in the 'pen, which is good. "Not sure when he's going to start throwing or hitting, so it's hard to get excited. Not too worried, but hard to get excited until he starts doing baseball activities.""
""You're talking about not doing anything, a progression of throwing and hitting, as we sit here on Wednesday, that won't happen through the weekend," Roberts said. "So I think the earliest that will happen would be when we're in Arizona.""
Will Smith was placed on the 10-day injured list because of a right-hand contusion after attempting to play through the injury. Smith appeared in only one game over a 10-day span before the IL move, which was backdated to make him eligible Saturday. Progress has been incremental, with the hand not getting worse but not yet allowing throwing or hitting. Smith caught in the bullpen, but full baseball activities have not resumed. A planned progression of throwing and hitting will not occur through the weekend, and the earliest resumption of those activities is expected in Arizona. Full recovery by October is not guaranteed.
